High in the Sky, Low on the Ground: Janzen Part of CAST Paper on Robots in Ag

Robots on the ground and in the sky - how is agriculture deploying robotic technology? Todd Janzen shares perspective as part of a paper that goes in-depth on this topic as part of a group assembled by The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST). “Ground and Aerial Robots for Agricultural Production: Opportunities and Challenges” brings together industry experts to cover many aspects of this robotic revolution. From reducing soil compaction to picking up eggs, highly automated systems are giving agricultural operations new choices that come with both opportunities and challenges.

“Robotics are becoming more important every day to agriculture,” says Todd Janzen. “I’m happy to be part of this CAST initiative to bring science-based analysis regarding the implications for robotic technology on the farm.”

Janzen’s expertise is featured in the Liability, Security, and Data Privacy section (starting on page 15). Issues such as who is liable if a robot causes harm to person or property are discussed as part of this new frontier. The 20-page paper includes Task Force recommendations for all of agriculture to consider.

The paper is available for free download here from the CAST Website.
