Slaven Joins Janzen Schroeder for Summer of Ag Law Experience
/“We understand agriculture” is the mantra of Janzen Schroeder Ag Law, including being applicable to their summer law clerks. The firm is pleased to announce that law student Mitchell Slaven will be gaining experience with them this summer. Slaven, who did his undergraduate work at Purdue University, has completed his first year at the University of Toledo Law School.
Along with his marketing and management degree, Slaven brings with him farming experience from growing up in Northern Indiana. “I am likely the only law student in my class who farmed full time before going to law school,” Slaven says. This perspective will be a key asset for Slaven as he assists Todd Janzen and Brianna Schroeder with projects and cases over the summer.
Slaven was drawn to Janzen Schroeder Ag Law due to their ag focus, in fact “cold calling” the firm to see if they had summer opportunities. “I am interested in agricultural law and wanted to get hands-on experience in this field to help translate what I am learning in law school to real life,” he says. “I know my experience this summer will lead to better understanding of how all the pieces fit together.”
The Shipshewana, Indiana, native is also interested in criminal law as he has observed the career and impact of his mother who is a lawyer and a Superior Court judge in LaGrange, Indiana.
“We are delighted to have Mitchell join us for the summer as he helps us with significant projects and other aspects of our ag law practice,” says Todd Janzen. “Ag law is unique and we are glad to help train the next generation of lawyers who focus in this important field of work.”
