Schroeder Testifies Before Senate Committee in Pro Bono Matter

On January 10, 2022, Brianna testified before an Indiana Senate committee in support of Indiana Senate Bill 180. The bill has nothing to do with agriculture—it is, however, related to Brianna’s pro bono work on behalf of children in need of services (CHINS).

SB 180 would require juvenile courts to appoint an attorney for a child involved in certain legal proceedings. Brianna testified about her experience as a court appointed special advocate (not providing legal advice) compared to her work as a volunteer attorney for kids in CHINS cases. After several hours of testimony, the bill passed out of the Family and Children Services Committee and was sent to the Appropriations Committee.
