Montana Farmers Ponder Ag Data Security, Janzen Serves as Expert

How is my farm’s data being used, and by who? These are questions farmers are asking themselves more and more. One avenue farmers are taking to find answers is through their legislatures. In April, the Montana Farmers Union filed a resolution with the Montana State Legislature, asking for an interim study of agricultural data collection and use.

Todd Janzen is an expert on ag data use considerations, and was quoted in the local TV story, citing the work of Ag Data Transparent (ADT) to bring transparency to data use. The story cites how Montana Farmers worry about where their data goes in the cloud, and noted that companies who are ADT-Certified follow ADT Core Principles in their technology contracts with farmers.

The news reporter, Ryan Gamboa, examined many aspects of this complicated issue including talking to farmers, government agencies and companies.
